ASADHARA – Live in Concert

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan USA & Sneh Arts Foundation present RASADHARA — an extraordinary double-bill performance bringing together New York’s finest Hindustani classical artists, bridging melodic innovation with explosive rhythmic virtuosity.

Curated by Sunny Thakkar, this special event features a Hansaveena Recital in the first half followed by a Tabla Trio in the second half.

Program & Lineup

Act I: Hansaveena Recital (6:40 PM – 7:45 PM)

Ramanan Venkatraman (Hansaveena) – Disciple of Pandit Barun Kumar Pal, audio engineer, and composer dedicated to establishing the rare 21-stringed Hansaveena on global stages. His playing balances traditional raga purity, acoustic clarity, and dynamic timing.

Aditya Phatak (Tabla) – Senior disciple of Tabla Maestro Pandit Samir Chatterjee, celebrated for his tonal clarity, speed, and command over classical accompaniment.

Intermission (15 Minutes)

Act II: The Tabla Trio (8:00 PM – 9:00 PM)

A high-energy percussion showcase featuring three master percussionists executing intricate mathematical compositions, rapid-fire improvisations, and unison rhythmic patterns:

Tejas Tope (Tabla) – Acclaimed virtuoso trained under Pandit Samir Chatterjee and Ustad Zakir Hussain, known for extraordinary technical mastery and crisp articulation.

Aditya Phatak (Tabla) – Returning in an ensemble role, bringing deep knowledge of the Farrukhabad repertoire.

Manav Khurana (Tabla) – Dynamic young tri-state talent studying under Pandit Samir Chatterjee, bringing intense focus and steady time-keeping.

Rohan Prabhudesai (Harmonium Naghma) – Trained under late harmonium legend Pt. Tulsidas Borkar and Pt. Kedar Naphade, providing the vital cyclic melodic anchor (lehra).

About the Featured Instrument

The Hansaveena was designed by Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar and Shri Ajay Rikhiram. Combining main playing strings, rhythm strings (chikari), and sympathetic resonance strings (taraf), it produces sustained microtonal glides (meend) and rich acoustic resonance.

Whether you are a lifelong admirer of Indian classical music or experiencing this art form for the first time, this live concert promises an unforgettable journey through melody, tradition, and emotion.
